Best Cozy Wineries in Sonoma with Fireplaces (Winter Wine Guide)
7 great Sonoma wineries with serious cozy energy
We are lucky enough to live in a rare San Francisco apartment that has an actual fireplace. Like, a real, wood-burning fireplace. And despite the many “spare the air” ads haunting my podcasts, we absolutely love it. The crackle. The golden glow. The way it transforms a gray, rainy afternoon into something cozy and, frankly, delightful. Add a glass of wine and suddenly winter feels intentional.
While red is the obvious fireplace companion, do consider a richer Chardonnay. If a big red is the slow cooked roast on a rainy Sunday, then a (slightly) buttery Chardonnay is a perfectly browned roast chicken to round out a chilly weekend (maybe with Alison Roman’s Anchovy Butter?)
But if you do not have a fireplace, or you just want an excuse to get out of the city without sacrificing peak coziness, Sonoma has you covered. Below are seven wineries (technically six tasting rooms) that deliver serious architectural warmth alongside genuinely excellent wines.

Auteur Wines (Russian River Estate)
The new Healdsburg estate is a stunning hilltop refuge that feels more like a private second home than a commercial tasting room. Plush seating, fireplace, expansive views, and a calm, residential energy make it an ideal place to watch winter fog roll over the Russian River Valley while you slowly forget what day it is.
The wines: Auteur specializes in crisp, balanced Chardonnays and nuanced, Burgundian-style Pinot Noirs that politely sidestep heavy oak and sky-high alcohol. Everything here is about finesse, site expression, and quiet confidence.

B. Wise & Amapola Creek (Kenwood Tasting Lounge)
Once neighbors on Moon Mountain, B. Wise and Amapola Creek now also share ownership and a tasting lounge in Kenwood. Designed by cofounder Ronda Wise, the space is richly textured with cozy lighting and intimate seating nooks that make lingering feel encouraged rather than frowned upon. It is very much a stay-awhile situation.
The wines: Sharing mountain soil but not a playbook, these two labels complement each other perfectly. You can mix and match tastings to explore both sides of Moon Mountain.
Amapola Creek leans Rhône, with Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Petite Sirah at the core, alongside heritage Zinfandel and small-lot Chardonnay. There is also a serious, old-growth style Cabernet in the mix.
B. Wise Vineyards brings the Cabernet muscle, but surprises with elegant, cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast and Oregon.

Hamel Family Wines
Hamel is a unique blend of luxury and soul, their “Estate House” is a modern architectural marvel designed specifically to frame the Sonoma landscape while keeping the elements at bay. The centerpiece is a massive, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace surrounded by mid-century modern furniture, offering a sleek but incredibly warm atmosphere for a rainy afternoon.
The Wines: This family-owned estate is renowned for its commitment to organic and biodynamic farming, producing limited, terroir-focused Cabs and Rhone Varietals that capture the essence of their rugged hillside vineyards.

Black Kite Cellars
Black Kite’s Freestone tasting room leans fully into mountain lodge energy. Set among vineyards and redwoods, the space offers a relaxed, living-room-style experience complete with fireplaces and vineyard views. It is rustic and refined, and blissfully removed from the busier tasting room circuit.
The Wines: They are masters of Burgundian-style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from some of the coolest (literally and figuratively) corners of Anderson Valley and the West Sonoma Coast. Their Pinots are known for a beautiful balance of dark fruit, savory spices, and velvety tannins.

Bricoleur Vineyards
The perennial crowd pleaser, Bricoleur takes winter coziness to a theatrical level with their “Après Bricoleur” experience, featuring a winter greenhouse outfitted with iconic Pendleton patterns. It’s a playful, high-end take on the “après-ski” vibe, complete with cozy blankets and seasonal comfort foods like fondue and raclette.
The Wines: The wines cover the full spectrum, from unoaked Chardonnay to Old Vine Zin, Viognier, Sauv Blanc, and even sparkling rosé. Across the board they are food friendly and designed to be shared, making it perfect for a social winter gathering.

Marine Layer Wines
This Healdsburg “coastal-chic” lounge is the ultimate refuge for those who love the moody, foggy side of Sonoma. With a cozy fireplace and sunken seating wrapped in soft, tactile fabrics, it is the kind of place where you plan for one flight and accidentally stay all afternoon.
The Wines: The focus here is strictly on “marine layer” influenced sites, cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These wines are lean, focused, and intensely aromatic, mimicking the crispness of the coast.
